The New York Yankees are cutting ties with team manager Joe Girardi.

The team released a statement confirming the decision Thursday, saying they're looking for a new skipper.

The 53-year-old just wrapped up a four-year $16 milion contract with the Yankees, which concluded with the Bombers one game away from heading to the World Series before they fell to the Houston Astros in game 7 of the ALCS.

In a statement, Yankees Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Cashman said, in part, "Everything this organization does is done with careful and thorough consideration, and we’ve decided to pursue alternatives for the managerial position."

Girardi served as the Yankees skipper for 10 years.

During that time he won a world series and made the playoffs six times.
