WILKES COUNTY, N.C. -- Western North Carolina is recovering from severe storms that left thousands without power Monday night. 

In Wilkes County alone, more than 20,000 people were without power at one point.

Officials say heavy storms and a possible tornado hit Wilkes County around 5 p.m.             

The storm brought down trees, power lines and roofs.

Police say no one was injured.

Wilkes County Schools are closed Tuesday for students and teachers.
