The NYPD plans to release body camera video of police shooting an emotionally disturbed person in Manhattan.

Police responded to an attempted suicide around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, on West 143rd Street in Hamilton Heights.

When officers arrived at the apartment, police say the man approached them with two knives.

Police say he refused to drop the knives, an officer then shot the man in the leg.

NYPD top brass says footage of the altercation will be made public.

"We will be releasing it at some point, I just can't give you a definite date yet," said Police Commissioner James O'Neill. "I think with the first one up in four-seven, I said as these things happen, it's gonna vary from case to case. We're gonna definitely release it, we're looking to build trust within the city, and I think it's important for all New Yorkers to see the reality of what it means, what it takes to be a city cop."

The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Saint Luke's Hospital.

The officers were also taken to the hospital for observation.
