Thursday marks the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park's opening day.

The first section of the Brooklyn park opened back in 1867, and it grew to the 526-acre urban space it is now.

The Prospect Park Alliance will mark the occassion with a birthday cake, and they'll also be planting more than 20,000 native trees, plants, and shrubs in the Vale of Cashmere section of the park.

The Empire State Building will also be lit up in green Thursday night to celebrate the anniversary.

The celebration continues this weekend with walking tours and nature explorations.
