Officials across the nation came together Thursday to ask people to imagine a day without a basic need.

'Imagine a Day Without Water' is a campaign trying to raise awareness about water safety.

Leaders want people to check their homes for lead pipes.

Surveys were sent out to all customers earlier this year, with some showing lead in their home's water supply.

And recently, algae blooms in Skaneateles Lake have caused more concerns about water quality.

OCWA says their supply has some added protections.

"One of the great things about the Ontario and Otisco supply is they're both filter plants. We have carbon on top of the filters. We have multiple barriers to treat it if it were to happen,” said OCWA Executive Director Mike Hooker.

Drones are used to regularly check the water supplies OCWA uses.
