NEW YORK - Sports radio host Craig Carton is used to answering calls, but now he will be answering to federal fraud charges.

The co-host of WFAN's "Boomer & Carton" was taken into custody by federal officials at his Manhattan home Wednesday morning.

He is accused of fleecing millions of dollars from sports and entertainment promotion companies by buying large blocks of concert tickets and selling them on the secondary market.

But prosecutors say Carton was instead pocketing the money and paying back other debts as part of a Ponzi scheme.

News of his arrest seemed to come as a surprise to his WFAN co-host, Boomer Esiason.

"I'm taken aback and surprised by it. Just like I'm sure everybody else is. I have no other information, there's nothing else I can say. I thought he called in sick this morning, but unfortunately my partner was arrested," Esiason said.

In a statement, CBS Radio said, "We are aware of the situation and are cooperating with authorities."

Carton has been suspended from the station pending the investigation, CBS Radio said in a statement Wednesday night. Former Giants quarterback Phil Simms is scheduled to host the next show with Esiason.
