Coming together with their voices, singers belted out Broadway tunes to raise money for hurricane relief at Snug Harbor Cultural Center on Friday.

"As artists, at times you want to do something, and you know the best thing you can do is be giving of yourself," singer Robert H. Fowler said.

The musical benefit is called Voices Of Hope, put together by Spotlight Theatre and disaster relief organization Yellowboots.

According to Yellowboots co-founder Ross Decker, the group's goal is to raise awareness and funds for those affected by Hurricanes Maria, Irma, and Harvey. "Because we've all been through it, we've been through what they're going through now," Decker said.

Decker co-founded Yellowboots almost five years ago after Hurricane Sandy impacted thousands of people and ruined homes on Staten Island.

Since then, the group has been providing assistance to those who have experienced natural disasters around the world.

All the money raised at the musical will go toward collecting and shipping medical supplies to Puerto Rico.

"The way we can help is not by going down there, but by bringing our talents together and sharing them," said Spotlight Theater Co-director Jacques Steward.

Special musical theater guests included students from Curtis High School for Performing Arts and Spotlight's Children's Company.

"It means a lot to me, that I know that I'm a part of something like this, helping out with such a devastating disaster going on around the world," said Ava Aloia, one of the singers.

Performers tailored their songs to messages of hope. "My song is from 'Les Mis," one singer said. "It's about praying and asking for help in a time of need.

Coming together, these artists hope that with their voices, they'll inspire more Staten Islanders to step up and help out.
