If you're tough enough to lace up your skates and try roller derby, Gotham Girls is now recruiting.

The high speed, high contact sport of Roller Derby involves teams trying to skate past one another on an oval track.

For nearly 15 years, Gotham Girls has operated the city's only all-female league.

It has seven squads around the city, as well as an All-Star lineup that competes at national competitions.

For those looking to get into the game, a basic training program is available ahead of next month's tryouts.

"It's a really challenging workout for your lower body, your core, for your balance. You need a lot of muscle to skate, and we work on that in training too. We do a lot of off skate conditioning. Everything to build the strength that you need," said Ariel Assault, the team's administrative director.

Tryouts are on October 14.
