Members of the Jewish faith in the city and around the world are celebrating Rosh Hashanah.

The start of the Jewish New Year began Wednesday night at sundown.

It is traditionally marked by the blowing of a ceremonial ram's horn known as a shofar.

Rosh Hashanah kicks off a ten-day period of reflection, ending with Yom Kippur next week.

Leading up to the High Holidays, the NYPD said it is monitoring the activity of hate groups.

Police say close to 300 hate crimes have been reported in the city this year, the majority of which have been anti-Semitic.
