State Senator Daniel Squadron stepping down
State Senator Daniel Squadron, who represents parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn, is leaving office.
He made the announcement Wednesday morning in Daily News op-ed.
Squadron says he is stepping down to focus on helping Democratic candidates and causes outside of the state.
Squadron adds that while he respects many of his colleagues in Albany, he also feels dealmaking upstate has hampered Democratic efforts to help New Yorkers even when his party has a majority.
Squadron says he is proud of his time in office, particularly his efforts in getting money for hurricane protections and putting more affordable housing in his districts.
He was first elected back in 2008 and was the youngest member of the State Senate.
His last day is this Friday.
