A Queens man faces charges for allegedly traveling to the Middle East and attempting to join the Islamic State group.
Federal prosecutors say Parveg Ahmed, a dual citizen of the United States and Bangladesh, traveled to Saudi Arabia in June.
They say the 22-year-old, who lives in Ozone Park, tried to enter Syria, but was stopped at the border and detained.
Prosecutors say Ahmed used social media to pledge his support for the militant group.
On his phone, investigators say they found texts he sent to an unidentified person, trying to get in contact with the Islamic State group.
Those allegations have left his neighbors nervous.
"This particular day, there was about 10 to 12 Homeland Security officers here taking all the computers out from this guy, this home," said one neighbor. "It's not a good feeling."
"It's very scary, especially knowing how every single one of these homes are all families with children next door to them. So it's very scary," said another.
Ahmed is charged with attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization.
He faces life behind bars if convicted.
