A college in Queens made sure students felt welcome as they prepare for the new academic year.

Queens College held its annual Welcome Day on Thursday. The day's events kicked off with freshmen and transfer students lining up for a procession onto campus. Then, all the students got to enjoy games, food, music, and more.

“We thought it was a great way to introduce them more to our campus, to do a couple of icebreakers so they get to know each other,” said Queens College President Felix Matos Rodriguez.

“It's pretty interactive,” said student Joe Lopes. “It's pretty fun. It’s not what I expected out of it.”

“I’m really excited about the new semester, about meeting new people,” added student Rosa Rosas.

Welcome Day started in 2012. College officials say the ceremony comes full circle for seniors when they walk in a procession off campus on graduation day.
