More than 5,000 people all dressed in white gather for the 7th annual Diner en Blanc pop-up picnic in Manhattan.

This year's dinner took place at Lincoln Center, but it wasn't revealed until the last minute.

Guests are told to gather at 24 meeting points across the city and are guided to the secret outdoor location by local volunteers.

They bring their own gourmet picnic, fine china, silverware, tables and chairs.

Organizers say its success here has helped the event expand worldwide.

"When it was done in New York, everyone around the world started picking up on it," said Sandy sufi, co-founder Diner en Blanc International. "Everybody wrote about it. Everybody lived it. And then social media picked up and then globally we started receiving requests from the four corners of the world."

"It is so what the world should be about. It's not political," said one partygoer. It's just a party. And it's great and it's wonderful to be here and I hope to come back."

The event began in Paris in 1988 and has expanded to 79 cities in 28 countries.

New York was the first American city to hold the dinner and has a waiting list of more than 45-thousand people.
