We have an update on the young girl who was badly burned by scalding hot water while sleeping in the Bronx.

People who have been visiting Jamoneisha Merritt at Harlem Hospital Center say she's in good spirits as her face continues to heal.

NY1 is told she is surrounded by lots of get well soon cards, and she's even dancing a little bit around her room.

Merritt suffered burns to her chest, back, neck and face last Monday when a 12-year-old girl doused her with boiling water while she slept. That girl has been arrested and charged with felony assault.

Merrit's mother says she believes water was thrown on her child as part of a trend called the "Hot Water Challenge," in which an unsuspecting victim has hot water thrown on them.

There is no word yet on when Jamoneisha will be released from the hospital.
