A South Jamaica homeowner is getting a safer and more accessible home thanks to some local Good Samaritans.

“I can get in the bathroom now,” said homeowner Ida Mae Williams. “I can take a shower, where I wasn't able to do that before.”

Volunteers from Lloyd's America, an international market, helped Rebuilding Together NYC refurbish a house on 122nd Ave. on Thursday.

Workers with the nonprofit said parts of the basement were outdated and had dangerous chemicals that posed health risks.

Rebuilding Together NYC also renovated the bathroom to make it wheelchair accessible.

“If you can't get up your front steps without potentially falling down and causing serious injury, that's just plain scary,” said Terry Scott, the director of construction for the group.

Repairs started at the end of April and are expected to take a few more weeks.
