An elderly woman is dead after a fire broke out inside a Brooklyn apartment building early Thursday morning.

It happened around 1:15 a.m. inside a four-story brownstone located at 1347 Pacific Street in Crown Heights.

Gertrude Duncan, 81, was pronounced dead at the scene.

She lived with her daughter, Barbara Wilson, on the second floor, where the fire started, but could not get her out.

At least six people lived in the building. One of the five survivors was injured, suffering burns to her hand.

It took crews nearly 45 minutes to get the fire under control.

There is no word yet on what caused it.
