NY1's latest Queens Person of the Week is a volunteer from Sunnyside who's making a "big" impact in one young person's life. Leisha Majtan introduces us.

Eunice Cuevas is so much more than a mentor to 12-year-old Guadalupe.

"She's like my sister. She takes me to a lot of places. She protects me," said Guadalupe.

Often they're at a park or in a museum.

But they’ve also shared some fun firsts together -- like ice skating and Broadway shows.

"She makes me experience things I probably never would have done," added Cuevas.

It’s more than just experiences.

Cuevas says it’s also important for her to be a shoulder to lean on whenever Guadalupe needs one.

"Both people benefit. It’s not just you giving to one person or just taking time out of your day to do community service. It’s so much more than that. I think it’s really influencing this person’s life and changing it for the better," said Cuevas.

Cuevas’ dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed.

In January, "Big Brothers, Big Sisters" honored her with the "Queens Big of the Year" award.

And while Cuevas is grateful, she says the real reward is in watching her "little" grow up.

"I just wanted to be that person for someone to be there, to give that guidance and that positive affirmation like "hey, you can do anything," said Cuevas.

And so for helping to guide her "little" toward a life of success, Eunice Cuevas is our Queens Person of the Week.
