NEW YORK - The inmate who escaped from a jail on Rikers Island Wednesday night is now back in police custody.

Naquan Hill never made it off the island.

Correction officers realized he was missing after their headcount was off when prisoners returned from outdoor recreation.

The complex went on lockdown around 7:30 p.m. to search for him.

That prevented some people from visiting their loved ones at the facility.

One of them shared a video with NY1, saying they were trapped on the Q100 bus for hours.

"We didn't have any information about what particularly happened," said one passenger. "They just said that they were on red alert and no one could come in or out."

"They searched us," said another. "They couldn't find the person who escaped and it's just like we shouldn't be accountable for that person."

Hill has been arrested several times for burglary.
