The lights are back on at a Brooklyn apartment complex that was plunged into darkness earlier today.

The outage impacted nearly 6,000 apartments at 1540 Van Siclen Avenue at around 10:30 Wednesday morning. A cause has not yet been released.

Several people had to be rescued from elevators.

"It's 40-some-odd years old and we know that these kind of things do happen," said one. "We need to be proactive in our assessment of what's the status of the pipes, what's the status of the generating facility here, so that we can make sure that we can prevent as much of this as possible."

Cell phone video shows residents having to navigate the towers in almost total darkness.
