A memorial service was held Tuesday for longtime newsman Gabe Pressman.

Family, friends, and colleagues came together at 30 Rockefeller Plaza to honor the legendary journalist.

Pressman got his start at WNBC in 1956, and spent more than six decades on air covering numerous historical events.

Those on hand honored Pressman for his tenacity and ability to unravel the truth of any story.

"For me, Gabe was the foundation of what reporting is all about," said longtime NBC network news anchor Tom Brokaw. "Not about you, it's about the story that you are covering. And all the people that you represent who are protected by the First Amendment."

"Gabe represented the best of the industry that he so personified during his era," said former NYPD commissioner Bill Bratton. "The idea of going where the facts take you, no matter where they took you to get to the truth."

Funeral services took place Monday.

Pressman died Friday at the age of 93.
