The city is asking New Yorkers for their help in reducing drug and alcohol overdoses in the five boroughs.

The Health Department is teaming up with the NYPD and the fire department to raise awareness of the state's 911 Good Samaritan Law.

Under that law, people who might have a small amount of drugs on them can call 911 to report an overdose without fear of being arrested.

"We're not about arresting addicts on this, this is about disrupting networks, distribution networks in these neighborhoods that we're seeing," said NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.

The new campaign targets areas which have seen a recent uptick in overdose cases.

A record 1,374 people died of overdoses in the city last year.
