A brand new lane on the Verrazano Bridge caused traffic delays Thursday morning before it was even open.

A seventh Brooklyn-bound lane for buses and high-occupancy vehicles was supposed to open Thursday at 6 a.m.

But construction ran behind, and the MTA says that work led to heavy traffic.

The first vehicles eventually made their way across the span after 9 a.m.

The Governor's Office says the new lane will provide a more efficient way to get from Staten Island to the Hugh L. Carey/Brooklyn Battery Tunnel.

The Verrazano is set to get cashless tolling on July 8.
