Police are investigating after a woman was shot on a Brooklyn street over the weekend.

Investigators say the 40-year-old heard gunshots around 8 p.m. Sunday on Louisiana Avenue near Glenwood Road in Canarsie.

She felt pain, and realized she had been hit in the torso.

The woman is now being treated at a nearby hospital.

"Guns are going off in our community and people are dying. Unfortunately we just had an individual shot on Utica Avenue in Bed-Stuy. It happened in broad daylight. They're brazenly pulling out guns in broad daylight, so what does that say about the gun laws that we have right now?" said Tony Herbert, a local community activist.

The victim is expected to recover.
