Mayor Bill de Blasio hit the campaign trail on Fathers Day.
The mayor and first lady Chirlane McCray attended church services at the Wayside Baptist Church in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
In his remarks, de Blasio stressed the importance of mayoral control over the city school system.
He says if he's re-elected he will build on his efforts to improve education - including his universal pre-K program.
"The majority in this city told me our school system had to change. The majority said we need to see the resources flow to every community with fairness and equity. The majority said we need our schools not just to be ok, but to be excellent for our children. That is what I am taking responsibility for, because you gave me that power," De Blasio said.
After the service, the mayor and his staff greeted supporters and helped register new voters.
