The Rangers' season is over after a loss in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

The Ottawa Senators jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never relinquished it, topping New York by a 4-2 score at Madison Square Garden.

Goals by Mike Hoffman and Mark Stone put Ottawa in front 2-0 after one period.

The Rangers closed the gap to 2-1 on a goal by Mika Zibanejad with about six-and-a-half minutes to go in the second period, but the Senators' Erik Karlsson restored Ottawa's two-goal lead a little more than two minutes later.

New York cut it to one again less than a minute into the third period on a goal by Chris Kreider, but the Blueshirts could get no closer.

Ottawa's Jean-Gabriel Pageau iced the victory with an empty-net goal in the final 10 seconds.

The Senators move on to face the winner of the other conference semifinal between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins. Game 7 of their series is Wednesday night.
