Queens College will soon be offering a new degree program that will be the only one of its kind in New York State.

Aspiring teachers can start the new Master of Science in Education Degree program this fall. The college says graduates will be prepared to teach both math and computer science. It builds on the "Time Two Thousand" program, which trains aspiring math teachers.

Applicants must already have their state math education certifications, take the Graduate Record Exams, and have at least a 3.0 undergraduate GPA.

“There's clearly a larger need in society to have computational literacy, not just to have a career in that field but also all careers, all careers, all things in our lives are more connected,” said Queens College President Felix Matos Rodriguez. “So we think having our students in the K-12 system better prepared is going to be indispensable.”

The school will be taking applications through August 15th.
