NEW YORK - Nearly two dozen people were arrested Wednesday in connection with one of the country's most notorious crime families.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation says it took 19 members and associates of the Luchese crime family into custody on a long list of federal charges, including murder, attempted murder and extortion.

This is similar to mass arrests made against several organized crime families back in 2011.

Prosecutors say since 2000, the men carried out crimes here in the city and elsewhere on behalf of their boss.

He is serving a life sentence in federal prison.

The members are accused of killing a Bronx man in November 2013, and attempting to murder two men from different crime families.

They are also charged with assault, distributing drugs, and money laundering.

Many were scheduled to appear in federal court in White Plains on Wednesday.
