  • Woods released on his own recognizance several hours later
  • In November 2009, he famously crashed his SUV at Isleworth home

He was arrested by Jupiter Police on Military Trail, south of Indian Creek Parkway, according to the Associated Press, and booked into the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office at 7:18 a.m. He was released on his own recognizance at 10:50 a.m., jail records show.

Woods, 41, was charged with driving under the influence.

Woods attributed an "unexpected reaction" to prescription medicine for the arrest.

"I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions," Woods said in a statement Monday evening. "I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn't realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly."

Woods apologized to his family, friends and fans and said, "I expect more from myself, too."

"I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again," he said.

He recently had a fourth back surgery for pain and wasn't planning to play a major this year, according to the Associated Press.

Formerly the world's No. 1 golfer, his pristine image and hidden life of infidelity began to unravel on Thanksgiving night in 2009, when Woods drove his SUV over a fire hydrant outside his Isleworth home and crashed into a tree.

According to an incident report, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper who suspected Woods was driving under the influence sought a subpoena for the golfer's blood test results from a hospital, but prosecutors rejected the petition for insufficient information.

He was charged with careless driving, and an FHP report — that included 105 photos of the accident scene — showed he caused $3,200 in damage to property other than the SUV. He was fined $164.

His ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, said she'd "been through hell" after learning of her husband's infidelity, but denied hitting him. She told authorities that she used a golf club to smash the back window of the Cadillac Escalade to get her husband out of the SUV.

Woods has a son and daughter with Nordegren. He is a 14-time major champion and ranks second with his 79 career victories on the PGA Tour.
