Veterans and active service members gathered aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Mayor Bill de Blasio was on hand for the annual service, which featured the laying of four wreaths on the Hudson River. They represent U.S. military members lost in past and current conflicts, allied service members and lost crew members of the Intrepid.

Speaking to the crowd, the mayor said more needs to be done to help our veterans.

"For all of us, every one of us, it should be our obligiation, whether it's helping a veteran to find a home, to get a job, get the mental health services they need, whatever it is, that's another way of us all paying our debt to those who have served us," de Blasio said.

Before it became a museum, the Intrepid was used in active service during World War II, the Cold War and the Vietnam War. More than 270 crew members lost their lives in that time.
