NEW YORK - It's been a long time coming, but the newly renovated George Washington Bridge bus station has finally reopened.

The $183 million project began in 2014 and was supposed to wrap up within a year, but it ran two years behind schedule.

The developer blamed the delays on having to work above a busy network of highways.

One of the big complaints from travelers was having to take a steep flight of stairs to reach their buses.

But starting Tuesday, they can take escalators at the Fort Washington Avenue entrance, and elevators at the Broadway entrance.

"It's really good because at least I don't have to climb those terrible stairs because in the winter its very terrible because the snow blowing and then you have to stand up out there in the cold," said one passenger.

"Finally it's here, there's a place to sit, it's comfortable, we don't have to climb the stairs, Thank God," noted another passenger.

The new station includes a heated and air conditioned waiting area, seating for more than 100 customers, and electronic information boards.
