With Mother's Day coming up, a new facility in Manhattan is helping new moms struggling with postpartum depression.

The Motherhood Center in Kips Bay has officially opened its doors.

The new facility features an on-site nursery, art therapy and parenting workshops.

Studies show 1 in 5 women struggle with postpartum depression after giving birth, but nearly 80 percent of cases go untreated because care isn't always accessible.

Organizers say the center gives women a much-needed resource to get back on their feet.

"We're all sort of sold a certain vision of what life is going to be like after having a baby, and it's so much harder than anyone ever says it's going to be," said Joanna Cascione, a mother.

"They're treated with respect, compassion, expert clinical care so that within two or three weeks, they can leave our program on the way to recovery and go back to their lives," said Dr. Catherine Birndorf, co-founder of The Motherhood Center.

Organizers say the center also aims to increase awareness about postpartum depression and help remove the stigma surrounding it.
