The New York City police Department on Friday released an updated policy for its police officers’ body camera program.

Police officials say the new procedures will require officers to activate their worn camera during all enforcement and investigative encounters, unless they’re interacting with confidential informants or sex crime victims.

Officers will be allowed to view their footage or any other officers’ video at any time, including before giving an official statement regarding any incident.

The update also requires the video to be retained for a full year, as opposed to the previous guideline of six months.

But the updated policy still needs final approval from the NYPD federal monitor.

The New York Civil Liberties Union says the guidelines do not go far enough to ensure police accountability.
