Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer is pushing back against President Trump's tax reform plan.

He says the proposal gives tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans.

Schumer is especially critical of a plan to get rid of the estate tax, which only applies to properties worth more than $10 million.

He also says the president's plan to limit deductions hurts middle class New Yorkers who pay high property and income taxes.

Schumer estimates that would cost the average city resident $5,500 a year.

"I believe that we should aim the tax cuts at the middle class, at the people who are struggling, God bless wealthy people, they're doing better than ever, I don't begrudge them but they don't need the tax breaks he way middle class people and people trying to get to the middle class need," Schumer said.

Schumer says the tax plan would also make New York less competitive with other states and drive away businesses.
