A wake was held on Long Island for the firefighter killed in action last week in Queens.

Hundreds of fellow firefighters and family members paid their respects to William Tolley at a funeral home in Bethpage.

Tolley fell five stories from the roof of a building while battling a fire in Ridgewood last Thursday.

Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said Tolley was special.

"Billy was, meant a lot to this firehouse, this department," Nigro said. "We're finding out he meant a lot to more than just his family. He volunteered with Make-a-Wish, with Wounded Warriors. He was part of our ceremonial unit. He'd be standing out here in the rain at any other funeral, but unfortunately, we're here for him today."

Tolley leaves behind a wife and 8-year-old daughter.

Another viewing will take place Wednesday, and his funeral is Thursday.

He was 42 years old.
