Police are looking for two men after a pair of bystanders were shot in broad daylight near Battery Park.

Authorities say a 35-year-old woman and 40-year-old man were walking near Battery Place and Washington Street around 3:15 p.m. Monday when they were hit.

Investigators say two men got into an argument when one fired a gun.

A witness who did not want to be on camera told NY1 he thought students from a nearby school were acting out a scene until the gun went off.

"A lot of people come here to practice and rehearse, but that wasn't the case. It was actually people that weren't part of the school that got into it," the witness said.

"We're interviewing witnesses, we're looking for video, and I believe that within a relatively short period of time, we're going to have more facts in this case and we're going to be able to solve it," said William Aubry, chief of Manhattan South detectives.

Police say the woman was shot in the knee, while the man's torso was grazed.

Both victims are expected to be OK.
