A big party is being planned this week to celebrate the opening of the first span of the new Kosciuszko Bridge.

The span between Brooklyn and Queens will open to traffic in both directions on Thursday.

That night, Governor Andrew Cuomo will be on hand for a grand opening celebration that will include a light show set to music.

This is the first new bridge to be built in the city since the Verrazano in 1964.

Most of the old bridge is expected to be imploded over the summer.

That will clear the way for construction to begin on the second span of the new bridge, which is set to open in 2020.

The Kosciuszko Bridge is nearly 80 years old and is used by nearly 200,000 drivers every day.
