Naydean Fisher said while growing up, her dad gave her all tools she needed to succeed and to build a house.

"My dad is my hero so anything he was doing, I was always over his shoulder. So I knew about the hammers and the saws and the screws -- so when this came up, I said, I can do this!" said Naydean Fisher, NY1's Queens Person of the Week and a Cambria Heights resident.

Fisher is a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity -- a non-profit dedicated to providing affordable homes to families in need.

She's been working hard to rebuild this house in St. Albans -- which sat vacant for nearly two decades.

"We've laid floor boards, framed out bathrooms, framed out bedrooms, cut wood, everything you can think of, we've done it," said Fisher.

Fisher is just one of dozens helping to construct this home from the ground up.

"When I first came here, this house was in much need. There was no roof. Now there's a roof, windows, the doors. It's been great!" said Reginald Auguste, another volunteer and NY1's Queens Person of the Week.

"This is great -- everyone working together for the community. I think we need to spread it out more all over Queens and across the City," said Assemblyman Brian Barnwell, who is also volunteering on the project.

Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 500 families across the 5 boroughs throughout the years.

The organization relies on volunteers to get the job done -- but being handy is not a requirement.

"They can do anything from laying hard-wood floors, to dry-walling. We come and train them in all of the work of the day. Volunteers are really the core of how we accomplish our mission," said Matthew Dunbar, the Vice President of Government Relations and Advocacy for Habitat for Humanity.

It's that mission that makes volunteers like Fisher proud to give back.

"I've been fortunate, I've never been hungry, I've never been homeless. So, my drive is -- I grew up in this community. I want to see it continuously thrive," said Fisher.

And so, for helping to turn this house into a home, the Habitat for Humanity volunteers are our Queens People of the Week.
