A heroic FDNY firefighter has died from a September 11th-related illness.

James Lanza died last Thursday after battling cancer for several years.

Lanza, who was also a Vietnam veteran, spent 28 years with the department and was involved with rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site.

The retired firefighter was also known for organizing trips to visit disabled veterans at different hospitals.

The Uniformed Firefighters Association says Lanza is the sixth firefighter to pass away from September 11th-linked illnesses this year.

Funeral services will take place Wednesday morning in Woodside, Queens.

James Lanza was 71 years old.
