A Bronx man who was caught on camera beating his dog with a shovel has been sentenced to a year in jail.
Raul Cruz, 45, pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals back in January.
As part of his sentencing, Cruz will be listed with the city's animal abuse registry and sign an agreement declaring he won't own any pets.
Prosecutors say Cruz was videotaped hitting his pit bull numerous times with a shovel in 2015.
Two days later, witnesses say Cruz beat the dog again and buried her in the snow, where she was found by police.
She was treated at the ASPCA and rehabilitated, and has since been adopted.
