Police in Brooklyn are searching for a man who they say snuck into a woman's apartment and tried to rape her over the weekend.

The NYPD says it happened around 7 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Greene and Irving Avenues in Bushwick.

According to police, the suspect entered through a window on the fire escape and exposed himself to the 30-year-old victim who was asleep.

They say he then tried to get into bed with the woman.

Police say the woman screamed, alerting her male roommate who was also home at the time.

Detectives say the roomate came into the room and the suspect ran out through the apartment's front door.

The incident has people in the neighborhood feeling uneasy.

"Oh my god, that's incredible. Unbelievable. Never happens in the neighborhood. It was safe. Now, you see it around more often and often," said one neighbor.

"I think that we're not safe because all the fire escape things are exposed and everything," said another resident.

The suspect is described as being 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing around 140 pounds, and was last seen wearing dark clothing.

Police said the man was last seen on Greene Avenue.
