The funeral for the EMT killed in the Bronx last week was held Saturday.

The service for Yadira Arroyo took place at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church in the University Heights section of the borough.

She was a 14-year veteran of the FDNY and had five children.

On March 16, Arroyo and her partner were responding to a call in Soundview when police say 25-year-old Jose Gonzalez stole their ambulance and ran her over.

We spoke with a woman who says her daughter works in a hospital where Arroyo would sometimes bring patients.

"I've just come to show my respects," the woman said. "It's really sad, because no one wins in this. You know, the boys are without a mom. And the young man, he needs help. It's terrible, a terrible way to die in the line of duty. Saving others."

"I understand, that there were many times that she would arrive to work ill. And they used to tell her to go home, and she said 'no', she wanted to stay to take care of her responsibilities. That, for me, is a hero."

Gonzalez is charged with robbery and murder in connection with her death.

His lawyers say he has a history of mental illness.

He's due back in court on April 5.
