WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump is demanding a make-or-break vote on his health care overhaul today after failing to hammer out a deal with Republican opponents of the measure.

He says if it doesn't pass, he will leave the Affordable Care Act in place and move on to other issues.

Top White House officials presented Trump's demand to GOP lawmakers during a closed-door meeting last night.

The vote was originally supposed to happen yesterday, but it was called off at the last minute because it didn't have enough votes to pass.

The Trump administration has been working to address the concerns of conservative and moderate Republicans.

Many conservatives want a stronger repeal of the Affordable Care Act, while moderates are worried that too many Americans will be left uninsured by the replacement bill.

After yesterday's meeting, House Speaker Paul Ryan said the measure would be approved today.

"We have been promising the American people that we will repeal and replace this broken law because it's collapsing and failing families and tomorrow we are proceeding. Do you have the votes? Do you have the votes?" Ryan said.

To approve the bill, 216 votes are needed.

All 193 Democrats are expected to vote "no," so the GOP cannot lose any more than 21 votes for it to pass.

The Associated Press says at least 32 Republicans are leaning "no" but that number could change as negotiations continue.

The vote is expected to happen sometime this afternoon.
