A Bronx man is dead and his girlfriend is charged with the crime. Borough Reporter Erin Clarke has the story.

A gruesome discovery in a quiet Bronx neighborhood: a city sanitation worker found dead in his home.

"It's kind of surprising," one local woman said. "This neighborhood is usually quiet, there's no raucous around here or anything."

39-year-old Aaron Rodriguez had been absent from his job at the city sanitation garage on Zerega Ave. for a couple of days. The sanitation department reached out to his estranged wife.

When she went to his home, she made a bloody discovery: Rodriguez was unconscious and unresponsive with stab wounds to his hands and legs. A knife was also discovered near him.

She called 911, and Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later said he was killed by his girlfriend, 31-year-old Naomi Olmeda of Mott Haven.

"I've known the lady for ten years. I don't believe it. I know she's a good woman living with her daughter," one man said. "She's charged for killing her boyfriend? I don't believe it."

Police arrested Olmeda on Tuesday night. She is charged with murder, manslaughter, criminal mischief, and weapons possession.

Wednesday, the medical examiner ruled Rodriguez' death a homicide, caused by a stab wound to his lower left leg.
