The Metropolitan Museum of Art's director and CEO is stepping down.

Thomas Campbell announced he is resigning.

He reportedly faced pressure after months of complaints by staff and the board about his leadership and the Met's financial stability.

The board of directors said Campbell led The Met in the right direction and the museum will continue the progress he made.

The Met's President Daniel Weiss will serve as the interim CEO. He will work with Campbell until his last day on June 30 this year.
