Police have made an arrest in a nearly-two-decades-old murder in the Bronx.
Curtis Batchelor is facing multiple charges for the rape and death of 56-year-old Elsa Grullon in May of 1999.
Police say they lived one floor apart in a building on Gerard Avenue in Concourse.
Grullon's son-in-law found her lying in her bed with more 20 stab wounds.
Investigators say Batchelor was linked to her death after he was picked up last year for jumping a subway turnstile.
"We got a DNA hit from the victim, where it occurred. We were able to identify this person from that. We then spoke with the Bronx DA, and we did some other things, some other investigative steps to build the case. We were able to put him inside that building at various times in that time frame," said NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.
Batchelor, who is now 41, has 16 prior arrests.
He is also facing assault and illegal weapons possession charges.
