A man is in custody and a woman hospitalized following a police-involved shooting late Tuesday morning in the Bronx.

Sources say it all started when Mount Vernon police officers stopped a vehicle for an alleged tinted window violation.

They say the black Chevy Impala drove off and a police chase ensued, ending on Bronx Boulevard in the Wakefield section.

The car jumped the curb and ultimately came to a stop once it crashed into a gas station.

Witnesses say they had to duck out of the way as shots rang out.

"A black car jumped on the sidewalk and started driving that way with about four or five police in chase shooting. I mean, opening up 10, 15 gun shots. The guy somehow broke the blockade," said one witness.

It’s still unclear who opened fire first and how many shots were fired.

Sources say the female passenger was shot in the shoulder and was taken to Jacobi hospital.

The driver was taken to a nearby NYPD precinct for questioning.
