Skaters on Staten Island are anything but stoked about the potential closure of a local skatepark.

The 5050 Skatepark in Stapleton says development in the neighborhood is resulting in rising rents that could force a shutdown.

The 8,000 square foot indoor offers ramps, rails, and equipment to skaters, BMX bikers, and scooter riders.

Owners say they're looking to stay open as long as possible because of what the park means to young people in the community.

"It's something very special when you come in, and you see kids learning and staying off the street. Especially with the drug epidemic that's going on right now. We're keeping those kids away from that. There's this old saying my mom told me; idle time is the devil's playground. And when they're here, they're utilizing their time in a good way," said 5050 Owner Ed Polio.

Owners say they're exploring the possibility of moving to a new location at an airplane hangar complex in New Dorp.
