A film festival that focuses on people with disabilities is taking over theaters.
Films like "How Sweet the Sound: The Blind Boys of Alabama" will be featured during the "Reel Abilities: New York Disabilities Film Festival", which gets underway on Thursday. Organizers say their mission is to celebrate people with disabilities in cinema.
"This is the most underrepresented minority in America and especially in film and media," said Isaac Zablocki, co-founder of the festival. "We don't see the diversity of inclusion of people with disabilities and these films are amazing movies from around the world that actually show people with disabilities in the day to day life not in a way that's focused or glamorized — it's really about just people."
The festival, which is in its ninth year, runs through March 8.
