Immigration agents say a man accused of abducting his daughter and killing her mother in Connecticut was in the country illegally.

ICE officials say 39-year-old Oscar Hernandez of El Salvador was issued a Final Order of Removal from the U.S. back in 2013.

Police say he took his daughter, Aylin Sofia Hernandez, 6, after he fatally stabbed her mother early Friday morning in the city of Bridgeport.

Authorities say Hernandez was spotted driving through the Bronx at one point, leading to a citywide amber alert.

Pennsylvania State Police eventually caught up with them and brought Oscar Hernandez into custody.

Hernandez also allegedly stabbed a second person, who is expected to be OK.

ICE says it has placed an immigration detainer to bring him under their custody.
