A 6-year-old girl who police say was abducted by her father early Friday morning prompting an Amber Alert in the tri-state area has been found safe.

Police in Connecticut say Oscar Hernandez, 39, pictured left, took off with the young girl after fatally stabbing her mother.

He is now in custody.

According to investigators, Aylin Sofia Hernandez was taken around 3 a.m. from the city of Bridgeport.

They say her father was spotted in the Bronx at one point.

Authorities in Connecticut called the ordeal senseless.

"You know, taking somebody's life like that is just, there's just no answer to that. This is ugly, ugly side of domestic violence," said Bridgeport Police Department Chief Armando Perez.

A second stabbing victim is expected to survive.
